A picture house cinema would be perfect for our up-and-coming, boutique area. It is an establishment that matches the type of people who live here – cultural, intelligent and independent. Crystal Palace is known for its independent shops and cafes – Bookseller Crow on the Hill and Domali’s, for example. Only a picture house – house in an original 1920′s, Art Deco cinema – will suit this building. A church will destroy the interior. We should be restoring our area to former glory. A cinema belongs at 25 Church Road.
We do not need another church in our area. There is a run down church on the corner of Chevening and Rockmount road, overlooking a park. It is just down the road and could be bought and restored as an evangelical church. Why destroy an amazing piece of history?! A Picture house will be 100% sympathetic to 25 Church Road and restore it and use it as a 1920′s cinema. They have proved their worth many times over. Namely – HYDE PARK PICTURE HOUSE in Leeds.
I think we need to take a reality check here. Is there still room for common sense? We are all aware of the problems in the area at the moment, the local youth with relatively little to do, the number of unemployed who are supported only by draining our already depleted benefits system and the growing anti social behaviour that effects us all. I am a Christian, but in this case I know that the Church is certainly not the answer. There are a number of very good Churches in the area which we can all attend if we choose. The addition of a cinema at this site will provide a valuable and cultural addition to the community providing much needed jobs, a safe environment for us all to enjoy, affordable entertainment and an attraction for visitors to come into the town and spend in our shops, restaurants and pubs.
Please let’s make common sense prevail in this case.
A cinema would bring infinately more custom and interest to the area than another blooming church. We already have 8 in the surrounding area, another one would do nothing but increase the traffic around the Triangle.
This building was built for use by the entire community. I DO NOT support any application for use that will ristrict its use to a small section of our society such as a church. Further to this I am also concerend that a building that was designed to enhance and benefit the whole community may now be used by a body that actively excludes other minorities.
I would like to see this building returned to the greater use of the whole community such as a cinema or concert hall etc.
A wonderful campaign. Culture and arts have a great ability to regenerate an area. Crystal Palace has a great deal going for it… and as we know there is room for improvement – it could be more like Hampstead or Clapham – it only needs a few more attractions/assets like a cinema. Perhaps there is room for an Arts Centre/Gallery – not just a cinema?? There once were plans for a sculpture park/landmark building at the top of the Park – a ‘destination.’ A cinema is a step in the right direction.

I could not agree more with everyone’s comments here – why on earth do we need yet another church?! How selfish!
