Stop Press – Campaign Update

Time has flown since our last update back in February and the question everyone keeps asking is: what is happening?

Coming up to a year

On 17th June it will be one year since KICC outbid City Screen for the ownership of 25 Church Road, calling time on the building’s four decades as a Gala Bingo venue, making loyal staff redundant, closing its doors to longstanding customers and depriving the local economy of a much needed leisure and entertainment asset.

Since 25 Church Road has been under KICC ownership it has been left empty and neglected. The local community has been denied access to a valuable resource – the only D2 leisure/entertainment building in Crystal Palace and a building with a significant heritage.

Campaign boosted by ‘no church appeal’ claims

The KICC has denied it has given up its controversial plans to turn one of Crystal Palace’s largest entertainment venues in to a place of worship, despite sensational revelations to the contrary from its former planning agent.

Bhavash Vashi, the agent that represented the KICC when its plans for the former bingo hall in Church Road were rejected by Bromley Council in December, has revealed the church told him it would not be appealing the decision. To read more

Do you want to get involved with fundraising for the campaign – Coming up soon a food, music and arts evening in Crystal Palace – Volunteers required

Volunteers are needed to help put on an event featuring great food and rousing entertainment from local artists, performers and musicians. We need set designers, art directors, prop makers to dress the space, waiters to work the floor, musicians to provide some beautiful music and any other performers who are interested in creating a night of magic.

About the current team -

Noreen Meehan is a local resident, ex-chef and event organiser for a not-for-profit organisation. She has lived in Crystal Palace for seven years and is passionate about putting the area on the map as a centre for the arts.
Jess and Laura Tilli are most famous as participants in the reality television show The Restaurant and also live in Crystal Palace. They run a catering business www.gobblegobble.co.uk which provides fabulous food for parties, going organic and environmentally friendly wherever humanly possible.
